SWAMP YABBY HOODIE
The Swamp Yabby hoodie was created for the Tomorrow runway for Yirramboi, and is a response to the swamp theme.
Today, the area located to the west of Melbourne's CBD is primarily used for industrial purposes, however this area was once a part of a fertile wetland that had been in existence for thousands of years.
The Yabby called the wetlands home, they lived in the mud and were responsible for cleaning up the wetland and recycling the nutrients.
Kulin people depended on the wetland for sustenance and cultural traditions for thousands of years, but European settlers quickly turned what they called "Batman's Swamp" into a dumping ground. The swamp became reviled and was eventually transformed by engineering projects.
Buluk is swamp in Taungurung language.
